Communication
2220 - Basic TV Studio Operation
Communication 2220 is an introductory level course for television production that is open to any enrolled UT student. It is a recommended course for communication students pursuing a degree with a concentration in television broadcasting, and is suggested for any communication major. Communication 2220 is also taught on a regular basis by Don Reiber, and on occasion by Tom Osswald. Each instructor's individual methods, choice of textbook and styles of teaching vary, but the core material covered is the same. Students in Basic TV Studio Operation learn how to operate all of the equipment in the department's studio and control room that is used for a typical television production, including cameras, video tape machines, audio mixers, the video switcher, the character generator, and the teleprompter. Additionally, students learn how to prepare scripts for a television program, how to perform on-air as an anchor or talk show host, and how to produce and direct a live television show. Students' performance is evaluated through traditional testing, equipment proficiency exams, and a series of shows produced by the student using his or her classmates as on-camera talent and crew members. Basic TV Studio Operation stresses to students the importance and necessity of teamwork and cooperative effort in the television medium. |
