Sumitra Srinivasan is a Ph. D. student in the Department of Communication at Georgia State University and is currently writing her dissertation on globalization of grassroots technologies in developing countries. Before she came to study at Georgia State, she was a Masters student in Television-Radio-Film at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communcation and part of the proud graduating class of 2001.

Her interests in integrating science/technology and mass communication perspectives comes from her Bachelors days. She was a Physics major at Stella Maris College in India, finding it difficult to tear away from the Physics/Electronics lab as well as from her newspaper beats. When you can't beat it, join it ! She found her combined interests in a program offering courses in Newspaper Journalism and Electronic Media Technologies at M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, The University of Madras. Her journey into convergence began there ...

Her research and teaching interests include New Media Communication; Globalization, Culture and Technology; Telecommunication Law and Policy; History of Technology. After she graduates from Georgia State University in Spring 2006, she wants to pursue academic research and teaching.

She is still fascinated by the Internet. She is passionate about theater and crosswords. She loves books, music, chocolates and people ... and would love to hear from you.
