Sumitra Srinivasan, JOUR 6000, New Journalism, Administered Online
"The Medium is the Message" -- Marshall McLuhan
"Content  is King" -- Bill Gates

Confusion prevails over what would continue to rule supreme in today's digital world. Is the medium still all powerful or is it handing over the reigns to the message and content? While this debate looms large, Journalism, as a discipline and a profession, is gracefully evolving to handle the demands of the "medium" as well as the "message". As journalists seeking the power of the word, and as responsible global citizens participating in a networked world, it is essential to possess the skills to mold the flux of the convergence era to stay on top of this "flat" playing field.

In this course, we will explore aesthetic, professional, legal and ethical issues surrounding this emerging "New Journalism." Come prepared to tackle the world of broadcasting, podcasting, webcasting, blog-casting, as they continue to change and challenge the legitimacy and legacy of journaliam.

I extend an enthusiastic welcome to newjournalism.com...
