History of Toledo Cheerleading
1975- Partner Stunting was introduced into the sport of cheerleading.
1981- U.T. made it to the California Bowl, which was where National
competition was held.
1982- First recipient of a cheerleading scholarship at U.T. offered
to Joyce Lewis.

Scholarship paid for one semester, the Spring semester.

Cheerleaders had to cheer for both football, and basketball in order to
receive the scholarship.

There were 16 cheerleaders, or 8 couples, and 1 mascot.

NCA first year.

Camp in Noxville, TN.
1983- UT switched from NCA to UCA.
1984-

Toss Hands required for tryouts.

Made second appearence in the California Bowl.
1995-
-
Switched back to NCA.

Joyce Lewis takes over as Cheerleading Advisor.

Made cheerleading regionals.
Interesting Facts of 1995:

Stunts now banned; Split Catch to cradle, Extention to front roll, and
Swan flip.

Other stunts; Side T's to rolldown to pop up, Press to Chair, and L-sit
to Chair.

At one time the weight limit for girls was 130 lbs.
1998- Deanna Brown-Patton becomes coach.
1999- New mounts are done for the first time. Now Toledo has five NCA staff members.
The majority of the varsity guys come back to contiune for the following year.
