Do you give the horse his strength
Or clothe his neck with a flowing mane?
Do you make him leap like a locust,
Striking terror with his proud snorting?
He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength,
And charges into the fray.
He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing;
He does not shy away from the sword.
The quiver rattles against his side,
Along with the flashing spear and lance.
In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground;
He cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.

Secretariat, nicknamed "Big Red", is one of the greatest racehorses to ever live. Breaking a 25 year Triple Crown drought, he won the 1973 Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths and set a new track record that still stands today. He sired over 200 foals in his retirement and continues to show his legacy on the track today. His legacy is honored with multiple monuments and statues across the country.
Pictured above is a replica of the monument located in Belmont Park's paddock.
