I began hiphop pretty late in my dance career and started it around 13 years old. I never took any non-company
(non-competitive) classes in hiphop and began right away doing it competitively. I did not think I would like the style
as much as I ended up liking it and still do. It is one of my favorite types of dance to perform and luckily, my training
in hiphop as yet to end because it is one of the styles I do on dance team. Not only have I continued this style, but I have
also been learning new technical skills and tricks to apply into dances which is something I did not think I would be able
to accomplish at 19 years old. It is fascinating to look back at where I was skill wise about a year ago to where I am now
with hiphop tricks. After wanting to give up numerous times because I failed at achieving a trick, I now realize it was worth
the struggle to eventually learn how to do them. Hiphop is such a expressive style where you can have fun while performing
it while conveying a message or theme at the same time. I look forward to seeing what else I can accomplish in this style
in the future.
