About Me

My name is Raymond Bieber and I am an junior art student at the University of Toledo. I am a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration on New Media Design Practices. I graduated from Whiteford High School in Michigan. I discovered my passion for photography design while on the high school yearbook team I currently work with photography, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. My dream is to someday create animations for studios like Disney or Dreamworks. Most recently I have begun making motion animations and GIFs.

My explorations in the practices of new media have led me through the first steps of motion graphics. I have gone from using photographs in still imagery to incorporating them in animations. I used to create work that was primarily photography. I have begun to move photographs in the background as well as generate works that do not feature photography. I have realized that there is not always a scene that can go with what you are making so you must create each element yourself. I am now further along with learning the tools that use to create my work, but I am still not where I would like to be. My method of creating an animation is that I first develop the objects in Illustrator, animate them in After Effects, and use Photoshop to make the animation into a GIF. I have begun to explore the possibilities of interactive art. I bring different components and objects that I have made individually and bring them all together for one complete work. I have long enjoyed the idea of making still objects come to life. I want explore art that is active with video and gifs. Motion does not have to be implied but seen in real time. In creating my works, I have studied natural elements such as the behaviors of insects to make sure that the speed of the movements and their timing are realistic. I have been influenced by styles such as the art of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and modernized them with animation. Artists like Gloria Ciceri have influenced my work with my choice to use simple shapes and a limited color palette. I intend to continue to work with motion graphics in video more as my understanding of the technology improves. Moving forward I hope to have more moving components in my animations such and arms and legs moving rather than the entire object moving at once. I also hope to begin creating three-dimensional objects and animating them to have them appear realistic within live-action footage. I want to give information in a way that forces the viewer to stay and watch to see the entire story rather than being able to understand after a glance.
